President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a message to the Nigerian Air Force urging it to look inward and stop its dependence on foreign countries for technology.

Nigeria has been working towards replacing the old fighter jets with the newer A-29 Super Tucano.
Brazil which gets 99 per cent of its aircraft from the US needs it approval before they can be sold.
The president called on the air force to be innovative in the use of local resources to sustain itself.
Buhari was represented by Danjuma Sheni who is the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Defence spoke at the NAF research and development competition/exhibition on Tuesday, November 29.
Daily Trust reports that he commended the efforts of the service on the efforts being made to develop the military aviation sector through research.
He said: “In a bid to reposition the Armed Forces to better cope with daunting challenges, the current administration has made the modernization, re-equipping and continuous training of the Nigerian Armed Forces a top priority.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces have in recent times been very busy doing a good job of confronting our nation’s current multifaceted internal security challenges. There is no doubt that the resources required to realize the full potentials of the armed forces are limited in view of the competing demands from other sectors, nevertheless, I strongly believe the FG will continue to do its best to sustain the current tempo of development.”
Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who is the chief of air staff noted that research and development has resulted in technological and industrial advancements while also accompanying economic growth.
